The following thesis purpose is to describe in depth the archiving practices of classification, management and digitization of the archives referring to minors’ case files of the Court of First Instance of Thessaloniki in 2006. The purpose is to integrate this material into the collection of the Historical Archive of Macedonia, of the General State Archives of Greece (GSAG). The thesis is essentially composed of two parts. The first part presents the basic principles and terminology of archiving, such as the definitions of an archive, the nature of an archive, the characteristics of an archivist, as well as the very nature of archiving. Afterwards, there is an extensive reference to the General State Archives of Greece and the Historical Archive of Macedonia, where the above-mentioned material will be kept. Concluding the first part of the thesis, the focus switches to the Court of First Instance of Thessaloniki, providing information about its structure, function and management, while greater focus is given to personal data, confidential documents, and laws regarding personal data, since the primary subject revolves around minors’ case files. In the second part of the thesis, the methodology that was followed is presented in order to classify and process the archives (folders with documents regarding minors’ case studies, martyrs’ testimonies, pictures, rulings etc.), GSAG’s online database for digital collections, along with the procedure that needs to be followed in order to archive the various materials, is also analyzed.
