Nowadays, he injury of the anterior cruciate ligament in athletic activities is a common phenomenon . The aetiological factors, the recovery of this lesion as well as the complexity of the injury led to the review of modern literature to find the appropriate recovery plan for each patient.Thus, the general part of the dissertation deals with the anatomy and kinesiology of the knee joint, the etiological factors of the injury and the conservative and surgical treatment of the injury. Then, the special part presents the conservative and surgical treatment of the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament as well as the necessary contribution of physiotherapy to the restoration. Physiotherapy is presented in two phases of injury, preoperative and postoperative. In the preoperative period, an indicative rehabilitation program and the importance of the patient's psychological preparation are reported. In the postoperative period, the physiotherapeutic contribution to the restoration of the patient to the previous condition and to the correct restoration is presented in order for the athlete to return in the athletic areas with reduced chances of re-injury. Finally, the paper refers to ways of preventing the rupture of the anterior cruciate and to the athlete's psychology.
