Healthcare facilities produce harmful waste during their daily function that can be classified according to their potential risk to humanity and to the environment. For that reason there is worldwide legislation that refers to medical waste management which includes the healthcare facilities from where they are produced and their final place of disposal. Papageorgiou hospital is such a facility that implements the legislation on medical waste management. This paper depicts the waste management of the hospital in the laboratory spaces, where unique categories of potentially harmful waste are produced.

| Abstract: | Οι Υγειονομικές Μονάδες παράγουν επικίνδυνα και μη απόβλητα που δημιουργούνται κατά τη διεξαγωγή των καθηκόντων τους, τα οποία χωρίζονται σε κατηγορίες ανάλογα με την επικινδυνότητά τους. Για τη διαχείριση αυτών των αποβλήτων υπάρχει θεσπισμένη νομοθεσία που περιλαμβάνει τις διαδικασίες από τον χώρο παραγωγής τους μέχρι και τον τόπο επεξεργασίας και τελικής απόθεσής τους. Το Νοσοκομείο Παπαγεωργίου ακολουθεί αυτούς τους κανόνες διαχείρισης των αποβλήτων σε όλους τους χώρους του και συγκεκριμένα αναφέρεται η διαχείριση τους στους χώρους των εργαστηρίων όπου υπάρχουν κατηγορίες αποβλήτων που δεν παράγονται στο υπόλοιπο Νοσοκομείο.
