Allergy is an over-reaction of the body's defense system in an otherwise innocuous
antigen (protein) called allergen. When the allergen enters the body, it will come into
contact with the allergen specific antigens and join with them. The association will
cause a series of events in the body, such as the activation of mast cells and the
release of histamine. Histamine along with other substances produced will cause the
symptoms of allergy.
Cosmetics play an important role in our everyday lives. It is estimated that on
average women use at least seven types of cosmetics each day, so it is not
surprising that the reactions to these products are quite common. These problems
are usually caused by the ingredients contained in cosmetics such as preservatives
or fragrances that can act as antigens, causing allergic reactions.
The side effects of drugs are considered to be one of the biggest problems in drug
therapy, with pharmaceutical dermal diseases accounting for a large part of them.
According to the WHO, a drug induced rash is defined as any harmful, unintentional
morphological skin change, with or without systemic manifestations, deriving from
topical or systemic administration of drugs at doses used to prevent, diagnose or
treat diseases or modify physiological functions

| Abstract: | Η αλλεργία είναι μια υπερβολική αντίδραση του αμυντικού συστήματος του οργανισμού σ’ ένα, κατά τα άλλα, αθώο αντιγόνο (πρωτεϊνη) που ονομάζεται αλλεργιογόνο.
Όταν το αλλεργιογόνο εισέλθει στον οργανισμό θα έρθει σε επαφή με τα ειδικά για
αυτό το συγκεκριμένο αλλεργιογόνο αντισώματα και θα ενωθεί με αυτά. Η ένωση θα
προκαλέσει μια σειρά γεγονότων στον οργανισμό, όπως π.χ. την ενεργοποίηση των
μαστοκυττάρων και την απελευθέρωση ισταμίνης. Η ισταμίνη μαζί με άλλες ουσίες
που παράγονται θα προκαλέσει τα συμπτώματα της αλλεργίας.
Τα καλλυντικά παίζουν σημαντικό ρόλο στην καθημερινότητά μας. Εκτιμάται ότι
κατά μέσο όρο οι γυναίκες χρησιμοποιούν τουλάχιστον επτά είδη καλλυντικών κάθε
μέρα, οπότε δεν προκαλεί έκπληξη το γεγονός ότι οι αντιδράσεις στα προϊόντα αυτά
είναι αρκετά συχνές. Τα προβλήματα αυτά προκαλούνται συνήθως από τα συστατικά
που περιέχονται στα καλλυντικά, όπως συντηρητικά ή αρώματα που μπορούν να
ενεργούν ως αντιγόνα, προκαλώντας αλλεργικές αντιδράσεις.
Ακόμη οι ανεπιθύμητες ενέργειες των φαρμάκων θεωρούνται ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα προβλήματα στη φαρμακευτική θεραπεία, με τις φαρμακευτικές δερματοπάθειες
να απoτελούν ένα μεγάλο μέρος αυτών. Σύμφωνα με τον Π.Ο.Υ σαν φαρμακευτικό
εξάνθημα ορίζεται κάθε επιβλαβής, μη σκόπιμη μορφολογική αλλαγή του δέρματος,
