The prevalence of CFRD and glucose tolerance disorder has increased over the last 20 years in parallel with the increase in the survival of patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) due to improved diagnostic and therapeutic means. The CFRD is the commonest and most severe co-morbidity in CF that overloads the prognosis and adversely affects the quality of life of patients. The diagnosis of CFRD is difficult because patients can remain asymptomatic for years before diagnosis. The high prevalence, the absence of signs and symptoms in the early stages and the increased risk of deterioration of the clinical condition of the patient makes it imperative the need for diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of the study was the finding of patients with CF who develop diabetes associated with the disease, and the study of the effect of CFRD and IGT in the lung function of patients and possible increase in adverse events. We studied all patients with CF monitored in the clinic of cystic fibrosis Pulmonary Clinic of the Papanikolaou General Hospital of Thessaloniki. The 29 of the 42 total patients attended at the clinic had not been tested previously for CFRD, when treated with glucose tolerance test. The majority of patients classified as group of CFRD without fasting hyperglycemia. Comparison of pulmonary function of diabetic and non-diabetic patients showed no statistically significant differences in the studied indicators.
