Λοιμώδη νοσήματα αιγοπροβάτων στην Κύπρο. (Bachelor thesis)

In this thesis we contact analysis of the main infectious diseases that affect sheep and goats in the prevalent situation in Cyprus. The objective of the thesis is the conception of the main diseases affecting animals as well as their prevention and treatment.
Initially, an introduction about the infectious diseases (i.e. the diseases caused by viruses) is given. Then, we will provide a more detailed description for each disease, such as contagious agalactia, brucellosis (Melitaios fever), paratuberculosis, caseous lymphadenitis, different types of mastitis, progressive pneumonia, the Coal, Listeriosis, infectious footrot, enterotoxaemia (dysentery) and Scrapie. Furthermore, we will investigate the etiology, the pathogenesis, the immunology, the symptomatology, the deterioration, the treatment and finally the prevention and the connection with public health.
Subsequently, we will talk in details about the current situation in Cyprus concerning the infectious diseases in sheep and goats . Based on a research we conducted, we will present the main diseases that have appeared in time as well as various multiannual programs for eradication of these diseases in Cyprus. It’s one of the recent intensive activities of the Veterinary Services of Cyprus that aims the massive diagnose, prevention and repression of the contagious diseases. The restrictive measures adopted not only include the ban on imports of animals and husbandry products from infected areas in order to prevent the transmission of diseases, but also the isolation of the infected animals, the livestock etc. within the infected areas in order to protect the animal population. The success of these programs depends on many factors and one of compelling ones is the cooperation and coordination of the Health Services and the Veterinary Services.
Finally, of big importance for dealing with infectious disease, is the legislative framework that applies in Cyprus.
The Animals Health act of 2001, after some amendments in order to accommodate the acts of European Union, ended up to the Framework Directive of Animal Health (Amendment) act of 2001 which aims to ensure the animal health and the protection of the public health from animal diseases

| Abstract: | Στην παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία πραγματοποιείται ανάλυση των κυριότερων λοιμωδών νοσημάτων που παρουσιάζονται σε αιγοπρόβατα και στην κατάσταση που επικρατεί στην Κύπρο. Απώτερος σκοπός της παρούσας μελέτης, είναι η κατανόηση των κυριότερων ασθενειών των ζώων και η γνώση των σημαντικότερων δράσεων που εφαρμόζονται για την πρόληψη και αντιμετώπιση τους.
Αρχικά, δίνονται κάποια εισαγωγικά στοιχεία γενικά περί λοιμωδών νοσημάτων. Δηλαδή τα νοσήματα εκείνα που προκαλούνται από μικρόβια. Στη συνέχεια γίνεται η λεπτομερής περιγραφή για το κάθε νόσημα. Τα νοσήματα στα οποία γίνεται εκτενής περιγραφή είναι η λοιμώδης αγαλαξία (παρμάρα), η Βρουκέλλωση ( Μελιταίος πυρετός), η Παραφιματίωση, η Ψευδοφυματίωση (τυρώδης λεμφαδενίτιδα), διάφοροι τύποι Μαστίτιδας, η Προϊούσα Πνευμονία, ο Άνθρακας, η Λιστερίωση, η λοιμώδης ποδοδερματίτιδα, Εντεροτοξιναιμία (Δυσεντερία) και η Τρομώδης νόσος. Εξετάζονται η αιτιολογία, η παθογένεια, η ανοσολογία, η συμπτωματολογία, η αλλοίωση, η επιζωοτιολογία, η θεραπεία, και τέλος η πρόληψη και η σχέση με τη δημόσια υγεία.
Στην συνέχεια, πραγματοποιείται εκτενείς αναφορά στην κατάσταση που επικρατεί στην Κύπρο όσο αφορά τα λοιμώδη νοσήματα αιγοπροβάτων. Αρχικά, μέσα από έρευνα που πραγματοποιήθηκε γίνεται αναφορά στα κυριότερα νοσήματα που έχουν εμφανιστεί κατά καιρούς στη Κύπρο. Ακολούθως, γίνεται εκτενής αναφορά σε διάφορα πολυετή προγράμματα εκρίζωσης των λοιμωδών νοσημάτων που εφαρμόζονται στην Κύπρο. Είναι μια δραστηριότητα των Κτηνιατρικών Υπηρεσιών που εντατικοποιήθηκε τα τελευταία χρόνια και έχει σκοπό τη μαζική διάγνωση, πρόληψη και καταστολή μεταδοτικών ασθενειών μεγάλης σημασίας για την κτηνοτροφία και τη Δημόσια Υγεία. Τα περιοριστικά μέτρα που εφαρμόζει η Κτηνιατρική Υπηρεσία Κύπρου με την απαγόρευση εισαγωγής ζώων και ζωοκομικών προϊόντων από μολυσμένες περιοχές, έχουν σαν σκοπό να παρεμποδίσουν τη μετάδοση ασθενειών. Σε περιοχές όπου ενδημεί μια μεταδοτική αρρώστια, η προστασία του ζωικού πληθυσμού επιτυγχάνεται εκτός από τα άλλα μέτρα και με την απομόνωση των μολυσμένων ζώων, των εκτροφών κ.λπ. Η επιτυχία ή όχι των προγραμμάτων αυτών εξαρτάται από πολλούς παράγοντες. Ανάμεσα σε αυτούς η συνεργασία και ο συντονισμός των Υπηρεσιών Υγείας και Κτηνιατρικής Υπηρεσίας είναι καθοριστικοί.
Τέλος, μεγάλη σημασία για την αντιμετώπιση των λοιμωδών ασθενειών αποτελεί το νομοθετικό πλαίσιο που εφαρμόζεται στην Κύπρο. Ο περί της Υγείας των Ζώων Νόμος του 2001 μετά από μια σειρά τροποποιήσεων με στόχο την εφαρμογή των πράξεων της Ευρωπαϊκής Κοινότητας κατέληξε στην εφαρμογή της Οδηγίας πλαίσιο Περί της Υγείας των Ζώων (Τροποποιητικός) Νόμος του 2014.Ο παρών Νόμος έχει ως βασικό στόχο τη διασφάλιση της υγείας των ζώων, και την προστασία της δημόσιας υγείας από ζωονόσους.
