Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder in which the body does not produce or properly use the hormone insulin resulting in increased glucose blood sugar. The increased glucose in blood condition called hyperglycemia. The continuously developing type 1 diabetes in adolescents and decisive changes that accompany puberty, make it necessary and compulsory monitoring and care of this vulnerable group of the population. The prevalence of juvenile diabetes with the passage of time is increasing and there is an urgent need to find appropriate treatment to prevent the onset of diabetes and eliminate diabetic complications. Methodology: The purpose of thisdiplomatic research project is the study and evaluation of Greek adolescents suffering from type 1 diabetes and the factors that affect the appearance. A survey was conducted among 14,918 teenagers in various parts of Greece with the data collection process. The recording of data concerning personal, demographic and physical characteristics of both teenagers and their parents. Also included individual and eating habits of adolescents. Results: According to the survey results from the total sample of adolescents representing 14.918, only 27 teenagers emerged that suffer from diabetes mellitus type 1. Of those 27 adolescents, 13 boys and 14 girls, is there is no particular age differentiation. The condition of the body weight of teens surveyed observed in the normal range both in the total sample, and adolescents with diabetes. The prevalence of type 1 diabetes in Greece the total sample of adolescents occupies only 0.2% and respectively the prevalence central obesity occupies 7.0%. Therefore, diabetes mellitus type 1 is not a risk to the weight change and the appearance of central obesity. Conclusions: The occurrence of type 1 diabetes in Greece teens at low rates and body weight is mostly normal. The factors leading to the onset of diabetes are many, many of themare modifiable. The further utilization of the results of this research could be used to update our design for the general population, and more specifically for teenagers aimed at understanding the disease and early prevention.
