The knee constitutes a complex and multifunctional joint that many complex stability mechanisms characterize it. Maintaining this stability, due to the integrity of the ligaments surrounding the joint. Daily, the knee accepts most stress of all joints of the human body because it connects two of the longest bones of the skeleton, the femur with the tibia.
It is a fact that the frequency of causing injuries on the knee to professional and non athletes in different sports, individually or team sports, has increased the recent years. It has been proven that the role of proprioception is very important and necessary in order to prevent and reduce the injuries. Proprioceptive receptors are located in the muscles, the tendons, the ligaments, the synovial bursa and intent to protect the joint from extreme positions that may hurt the knee. The correct proprioceptive response of the body requires a timely action of all the anatomical elements that involve with the movements and balance preventing injuries which may occur in the region.
Recent years it has been widely used the application of Kinesio Taping in order to maximize the performance of the muscle but also to prevent injuries to the athletes. This technique was developed by Japanese chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase in the 1970s. It has been proven that the effect of this technique reduce pain, improve healing of soft tissues but furthermore offers proprioceptive facilitation.
The purpose of this Thesis Title is to investigate the effectiveness of the Kinesio Taping on the knee and if this technique affects balance to healthy handball players. There are many researches that dealt with the affect of this tape on the ankle, however this research gap, about the knee joint and the affect of the kinesiotape on balance, was that created the curiosity in order to conduct this research.
The Thesis Title consists of two parts:
1. General Part: which refers to anatomical data, biomechanics of the knee joint, balance and informations about the kinesiotape.
2. Specific Part: which refers to the research that took place in order to investigate the effect of the kinesiotape on balance to the knee joint.
The search was performed in electronic databases Pubmed and Google Scholar with keywords kinesiotape, kinesio tape, kinesiotaping, kinesiotape and knee, kinesio tape and knee, kinesiotaping and knee, kinesiotape and balance, kinesio tape and balance, kinesiotaping and balance, Star excursion balance test, star excursion balance test validity, star excursion balance test and knee, single leg hop test reliability.
