Φυσικοθεραπευτική παρέμβαση σε ασθενείς με καρκίνο (Bachelor thesis)

Nowadays, cancer is one of the most common diseases that affect much of the population. Current therapeutic approaches, including surgical intervention, radiation and chemotherapy often lead to collateral complications, affecting the physical condition of patients, while limiting the ability of their personal independence and self-service.
Frequent complications of treatment of cancer are the destruction of connective tissue, lymphoedema, a discount of cardiorespiratory function and musculoskeletal and neurological complications, which have a negative impact on patient quality of life.
This leads to the need for a more specialized approach to manage these problems. The aim of physiotherapeutic rehabilitation of cancer patients, is to improve their quality of life through improving muscle strength, mobility and their functional independence. If necessary, it is important, as well, the social reintegration of the patient to the professional field, or even, change both the guidance and the various social activities, in order to complete restoration in operational capabilities.

| Abstract: | Στη σημερινή εποχή, ο καρκίνος αποτελεί μια από τις συχνότερες παθήσεις προσβάλλοντας μεγάλο μέρος του πληθυσμού. Οι σημερινές θεραπευτικές προσεγγίσεις, που περιλαμβάνουν τη χειρουργική παρέμβαση, την ακτινοβολία καθώς και τη χημειοθεραπεία οδηγούν συχνά σε παράπλευρες επιπλοκές, επηρεάζοντας τη φυσική κατάσταση των ασθενών και παράλληλα περιορίζοντας την ικανότητα της προσωπικής τους ανεξαρτησίας και της αυτοεξυπηρέτησής τους.
Συχνές επιπλοκές της θεραπευτικής αντιμετώπισης του καρκίνου αποτελούν η καταστροφή του οστίτη και συνδετικού ιστού, το λεμφοίδημα, η έκπτωση της καρδιοαναπνευστικής λειτουργίας καθώς και μυοσκελετικές και νευρολογικές επιπλοκές, οι οποίες έχουν αρνητική επίδραση στην ποιότητα ζωής του ασθενούς.
Τα παραπάνω οδηγούν στην ανάγκη της πιο εξειδικευμένης προσέγγισης για την αντιμετώπιση αυτών των προβλημάτων. Στόχος της φυσικοθεραπευτικής αποκατάστασης των ασθενών με καρκίνο, είναι η βελτίωση της ποιότητας ζωής τους διαμέσου της βελτίωσης της μυϊκής δύναμης, της κινητικότητας και της λειτουργικής τους ανεξαρτησίας. Εάν κρίνεται απαραίτητο, είναι σημαντική και η κοινωνική επανένταξη του ασθενούς στον επαγγελματικό χώρο ή ακόμη και η αλλαγή τόσο του επαγγελματικού προσανατολισμού του όσο και των διαφόρων κοινωνικών του δραστηριοτήτων με σκοπό την ολοκληρωμένη επαναφορά στις λειτουργικές του δυνατότητες.
