Pig farming is one of the most important branches of animal production. It is a particularly important activity of the EU's agricultural sector with examples such as Denmark. In Greece, pig farming does not touch the example of Denmark, but there are potential improvements, either through the introduction of genetically improved pig breeds with dubious results due to their adaptability or the rescue of native indigenous breeds of pigs. The purpose of this dissertation is to study an indigenous Greek breed of pigs, the black pig, to highlight breeding and breeding elements of the breed in the geographical area of Central Macedonia. For the needs of the study, visits were made to a holding which is engaged in the rearing of the Black Pig in Central Macedonia. From the visit to this farm, productive elements of the breed were collected.The aim of this dissertation study, by collecting and analyzing the characteristics of the Black Pig breed, is to make conclusions about the possibility of improvement. This objective was achieved both through the productive indicators of the holding and by comparison with other widespread and non-breed races.
