Η γνώμη των εκπαιδευτικών της δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης για τις επιπτώσεις του μεγέθους της τάξης στη διδασκαλία των μαθητών, η περίπτωση των γυμνάσιων του Νομού Θεσσαλονίκης (Master thesis)

The aim of the study was to determine to what extent the high school teachers of the prefecture of Thessaloniki, Greece, agree or disagree with the existing literature, linking the size of the class with the academic success of the students. For this purpose the questionnaire method was adopted and was addressed to 110 high school teachers of the prefecture. The results of the research showed that the participants believe that there is a negative relationship between a classroom size and the students’ academic success, while small classes contribute to student greatest achievements. The most important parameters of the negative impact of larger classes were the limitation of the teachers’ ability to apply a variety of teaching methods, the limitation of the provision of adequate equipment or technological material to each student and the increased discipline issues, while the fundamental parameter of the positive impact of smaller classes was the teachers’ opportunity to spend more time on each individual student. Finally, any disagreements that may have been expressed were mainly due to differences in the gender, the educational level and the teaching experience or not in larger classes.

| Abstract: | Ο στόχος της μελέτης ήταν να προσδιοριστεί σε ποιο βαθμό, οι καθηγητές των γυμνασίων του νομού Θεσσαλονίκης συμφωνούν ή διαφωνούν με τη υπάρχουσα βιβλιογραφία, που συνδέει το μέγεθος της τάξης με την επιτυχία των μαθητών. Για το σκοπό αυτό υιοθετήθηκε η μέθοδος του ερωτηματολόγιου, που απευθύνθηκε σε 110 καθηγητές από γυμνάσια του νομού. Τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας έδειξαν ότι οι συμμετέχοντες στην έρευνα καθηγητές πιστεύουν ότι όντως υπάρχει αρνητική σχέση μεταξύ μιας τάξης μεγάλου μεγέθους και των επιτυχιών των μαθητών, ενώ αντίθετα μια τάξη μικρού μεγέθους συμβάλει συνολικά σε μεγαλύτερες επιτυχίες των μαθητών. Μάλιστα ως σημαντικότερες παράμετροι της αρνητικής επίδρασης των μεγαλύτερων τάξεων θεωρήθηκαν ο περιορισμός της δυνατότητας των καθηγητών να εφαρμόσουν ποικίλες μεθόδους διδασκαλίας, ο περιορισμός της παροχής επαρκούς εξοπλισμού ή τεχνολογικού υλικού στον κάθε μαθητή και τα μεγαλύτερα προβλήματα πειθαρχίας, ενώ ως σημαντικότερη παράμετρος στη θετική επίδραση των μικρότερων τάξεων θεωρήθηκε η ευκαιρία που έχουν οι καθηγητές να δαπανήσουν περισσότερο χρόνο σε κάθε μαθητή ατομικά. Τέλος, οι διαφωνίες που τυχόν εκφράστηκαν, οφείλονταν κυρίως σε διαφορές φύλου, μορφωτικού επιπέδου και εμπειρίας ή όχι διδασκαλίας σε μεγαλύτερες τάξεις.
