The present thesis is designed to study cultural tourism and cultural routes in association with memory and the past. In addition, an attempt has been made to investigate whether storytelling tool can work as a booster in the modern guest s interpretation process. Initially, it is approached bibliographically and then a primary survey, which examines the above cases, is presented using interviews, The concepts of culture and tourism have the peculiarity that are very closely interlinked and at the same time constantly evolving. Moreover the bloom of both is closely related to the economic growth of a destination. Our identity as a social beings is characterized by our culture which can always be identified through a map. Cultural routes can map new ways of approaching the world and our very nature. Narratives are a tool that has been used in recent years to enhance the interpretation of the cultural landscape as “reading the present in terms of the past” with a prerequisite for the past to be recorded in terms of the present. This was a stimulus for the writing of this thesis in reference to the city of Thessaloniki which has a wealth of cultural resources and stories. The result of this process was the proposition of two cultural routes of an invisible city that had been emphasized in texts derived from empirical narratives and memories of the past.
