The international community is now confronted with enormous security challenges. In particular, natural disasters usually have serious consequences, such as major human and financial losses. In the field of crisis response, as a result of natural and man-made disasters, States are trying internationally to develop the appropriate institutions and tools to create the necessary capabilities. The present thesis, which is divided into two parts, aims to study Crisis Management in Public Organizations in general and specifically in the case of the Central Macedonia Region. In the first part, the theoretical part, an extensive report is made through the bibliographic review of the crises phenomenon, their specificity, their theoretical approach, the way they are being dealt with by organized political systems internationally, their degree of success and the use of hypothetical scenarios to cope with. In the second part, the research, there is a presentation of the Region of Central Macedonia, its organizational chart, the structure of the Independent Political Protection Directorate P.K.M. in its individual separate Departments per Regional Unit, its degree of preparedness in cases of crisis, theidentified problems and constraints as well as the proposals for a more successful outcome, through interviews of employees of the Civil Protection Department of Thessaloniki.
