Stress was and still is a natural phenomenon of people's everyday lives. The current world is full of stressful situations: one can feel anxious when there is a lot of work in his office and another may feel restless when he has to buy a gift for a particular person. The profession of teacher could not be an exception, as teachers' anxiety is today a major international issue and the plethora of research published so far is indicative of this interest. The purpose of this research is to investigate some of the basic dimensions of the professional stress of primary and secondary school managers in Greece and to integrate the results of the relevant research into the available research data on the topics under consideration. More specifically, the purpose of this research is to investigate sources of anxiety for managers of primary and secondary education in Greece, the symptoms and effects of stress on managers' work and the strategies that managers use to deal with anxiety. The study was conducted in a sample of 130 directors in western Thessaloniki and the results are consistent with previous research, highlighting the importance of fighting stress in this group of Stress was and still is a natural phenomenon of people's everyday lives. Abstract: Το άγχος ήταν και εξακολουθεί να είναι ένα φυσικό φαινόμενο της καθημερινής ζωής των ανθρώπων. Ο σημερινός κόσμος είναι γεμάτος αγχωτικές καταστάσεις: μπορεί κανείς να αισθάνεται ανήσυχος όταν υπάρχει πολλή δουλειά στο γραφείο του και άλλος μπορεί να αισθάνεται ανήσυχος όταν πρέπει να αγοράσει ένα δώρο για ένα συγκεκριμένο άτομο. Το επάγγελμα του δασκάλου δεν θα μπορούσε να αποτελεί εξαίρεση, καθώς το άγχος των εκπαιδευτικών είναι σήμερα ένα μείζον διεθνές ζήτημα και η πληθώρα των δημοσιευθεισών μέχρι σήμερα ερευνών είναι ενδεικτική αυτού του ενδιαφέροντος. Σκοπός της παρούσας έρευνας είναι να διερευνήσει κάποιες από τις βασικές διαστάσεις του επαγγελματικού άγχους των διευθυντών της πρωτοβάθμιας και δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης στην Ελλάδα και να ενσωματώσει τα αποτελέσματα της σχετικής έρευνας στα διαθέσιμα ερευνητικά δεδομένα για τα υπό εξέταση θέματα. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, ο σκοπός αυτής της έρευνας είναι να διερευνήσει τις πηγές που προκαλούν άγχος στους διευθυντές της πρωτοβάθμιας και δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης της Ελλάδας, τα συμπτώματα και οι επιπτώσεις που έχει το άγχος στην εργασία των διευθυντών και τις στρατηγικές που χρησιμοποιούν οι διευθυντές για την αντιμετώπιση του άγχους. Η μελέτη πραγματοποιήθηκε σε ένα δείγμα 130 διευθυντών στην δυτική Θεσσαλονίκη και τα αποτελέσματα είναι σύμφωνα με πρότερες έρευνες, αναδεικνύοντας τη σημασία της καταπολέμησης του άγχους στην εν λόγω ομάδα εργαζομένων.
