Η σχέση του καταναλωτή με τη διατροφική ετικέτα των τροφίμων (Bachelor thesis)

The present study was conducted within the framework of the curriculum of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, DIPE. Its purpose is to investigate the relationship of the consumer with the labeling and nutrition labels of foods. In particular, any correlations with the socio-demographic data of the population are examined. It took place between December 2018 and March 2019 and the study sample consisted of 1,200 consumers from different parts of Greece. The processing and statistical analysis of its material was carried out using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) 23.0 for Windows package and include the descriptive analysis of the data and the control of x2 independence of several qualitative variables. According to the results of the survey, consumers appear to be significantly affected by the purchase of food from the expiry date of the products, the purchase price, as well as their smell and taste. They are a little affected by the ease of opening the packaging, its material, and its recyclability. Consumers place more weight on practical and financial issues when purchasing food, while they are less akin to the views of "I never read food information because I do not understand" and "I prefer to choose plastic packaging". Concerning the proposals for improving the nutrition label, the majority (53.3%) suggests "using simpler words". Finally, reading basic information on food labels appears to be affected by socio-demographic factors such as gender, age, marital status, educational level and monthly family income of consumers and the profession, but also certain personal characteristics of consumers such as the frequency with which consumers are trained, who prepares food at home and who makes the shopping at home and the time they spend on the food market.
