Introduction: The increasing prevalence of obesity underlines the need for well-documented and targeted weight-management interventions that can be applied to the entire population. The use of psycho-behavioral intervention in the form of the Transtheoretical Model, in combination with an assessment of selfesteem and self-efficacy, can be the basis for changing eating habits. Aim of Study: To investigate the role of psycho-behavioral intervention in managing weight loss, using specifically well designed psycometric tools such as self-efficacy and self-esteem in overweight and obese individuals. Method: Overweight and obese adults (n = 175; BMI 33.2 Kg / m2) were divided into three groups (Control Group, Low Compliance and High Compliance). With the 'Motivation Profiler' psychometric questionnaire, the stage of change, the self-esteem score and the self-efficacy score of each individual in the Low and High Compliance teams were calculated. Additionally, the somatic measurements were taken with the TANITA BC-418 MA. Statistical analysis of the data was done with Microsoft Excel 2010 and IBM SPSS STATISTICS V.20. Results: The High Compliance team reported a statistically significant increase in self-efficacy (p <0.01) without a parallel increase in self-esteem (p=0,631). While the significantly increased self-esteem (p = 0.025) of the Low Compliance Group, compared to the High Compliance team at the beginning of the intervention, appears to have contributed to low attachment to psychobehavioral intervention. The decrease observed in the anthropometric parameters studied (BMI, Body Fat Percentage and Visceral Fat Level) in all diet intervention groups, with or without psycho-behavioral management, showed no statistically significant difference between the three groups. Conclusions: Psycho-behavioral intervention in managing weight loss seems to enhance self-efficacy, while self-esteem is an independent factor contributing to the degree of compliance. Therefore, it seems important to emphasize on managing self-esteem in order to promote compliance, which will subsequently increase self-efficacy. Further research is proposed with particular emphasis on the management of self-esteem in order to produce a synergistic effect along with self-efficacy for a better outcome of the intervention.
