The usage of smartphones for web browsing is increasing at a fast rate, without the web
context being prepared for such a major change. Web designing has been implemented
considering wider screens, so page content is not displayed in a functional and
appealing manner in the limited screen space of smartphones.
Responsive web design offers a solution to this problem, which is growing, if the variety
of diverse screen sizes for the different kinds of available platforms is taken into
account, for instance smartphones, tablets, phablets, portable and desktop PCs, game
consoles, TVs, even wearable devices. Apparently, screen size is going to be constantly
modified, as new platforms make their way into people’s daily routine.
The purpose of the thesis is to depict the responsive web design technique at length,
with the elements that constitute the approach, and the way it is carried out,
emphasizing on mobile design and its particularities and restrictions. Moreover, the
paper contains a descriptive presentation and testing of three responsive frameworks.

| Abstract: | Η χρήση έξυπνων κινητών συσκευών για την εξερεύνηση του web αυξάνεται με πολύ
γρήγορο ρυθμό χωρίς όμως οι συνθήκες του web να έχουν προετοιμαστεί για κάτι
τέτοιο. Η σχεδίαση των ιστοσελίδων έχει γίνει με πρόβλεψη για μεγαλύτερες οθόνες,
κάτι που δεν παρουσιάζει το περιεχόμενο στις μικρές οθόνες των έξυπνων κινητών με
λειτουργικό και αισθητικό τρόπο.
Το responsive web design δίνει λύση στο συγκεκριμένο πρόβλημα το οποίο γίνεται
ακόμη μεγαλύτερο αν αναλογιστούμε την πληθώρα διαφορετικών μεγεθών οθονών στα
διάφορα είδη συσκευών που χρησιμοποιούνται, όπως έξυπνα κινητά, tablets, phablets,
φορητοί Η/Υ, επιτραπέζιοι Η/Υ, κονσόλες παιχνιδιών, τηλεοράσεις ακόμα και τις
wearable συσκευές. Προφανώς, το μέγεθος της οθόνης συνεχώς θα μεταβάλλεται από
νέες συσκευές που θα ενσωματώνονται στην καθημερινότητά μας.
Στόχος της πτυχιακής είναι η αναλυτική παρουσίαση της τεχνικής του responsive web
design, των στοιχείων που το απαρτίζουν, καθώς και του τρόπου υλοποίησής του,
δίνοντας ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στο mobile design και τις ιδιαιτερότητες και τους
περιορισμούς που εμφανίζει. Επίσης, πραγματοποιείται μια αναλυτική επισκόπηση και
