Rosa sp. is an important flowering plant for Greece. The rose production is about 335 tonnes according the Ministry of Rural Development of Greece, for the year 2017. In western Macedonia and especially in Kozani area, most acres (stremmata) are cultivated. In the summer of 2019, insect damage was observed to the rose leaves in the Pieria (Korinos). Samples from Rosa plants and insects were collected and brought to the laboratory of Entomology, in International Hellenic University for identification. The identification based on adult’s morphological characteristics and DNA barcoding. Genomic DNA was extracted from whole samples using the Pure Link™ Genomic DNA Mini kit (Invitrogen, USA). The mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I gene was chosen as target for the analysis of each sample. The PCR products were sequenced. The resulting sequences were submitted in GenBank and BOLD databases. Amplification and sequencing was successful for all DNA samples. All submitted sequences were identified as belonging to the Cladius pectinicornis (Geoffroy, 1785) (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae) species, with an identity percentage of 99-100%. Also the morphological identification showed the above species. Observations on insect’s biology showed that C. pectinicornis had a larval population in May, June, August, October and November, with serious injuries in leaves.
