The purpose of this thesis is to record the impact of women’s agricultural cooperatives on local societies in Greece. Women’s cooperatives in Greece are a business model that inspires female farmers and agencies involved in rural development and employment support. In the context of this thesis we interviewed cashier of cooperative in person, and filled in structured interview questionnaires jointly with active women’s cooperatives’ members. The qualitative research aimed at indicating the reasons for female farmers to participate to cooperatives, the outcomes of such participations, and the attitudes and views arising from cooperatives’ operation. What do farmers themselves believe about the cooperative. Data analysis indicated that the main incentive for women to participate to cooperatives was the need for an employment and an income. At Saint Antonios Cooperative, despite problems, the members managed to have a part-time employment and an extra income, but also to improve their everyday life and their social status. The “active” members of women’s agricultural cooperatives participate in decision-taking and have a positive view of cooperatives’ progress, as they understand that their cooperative contribute to regional development and the preservation of local tradition, further to the impact on each and every participant’s life.
