The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the knowledge and attitudes of nurses regarding brain death and organ donation. Cerebral death is defined as the condition of an irreversible deep coma, in which both the brain and the brainstem are completely absent, as it is presumed by respiratory arrest and the absence of all reflexes of the brainstem. Many brain-dead patients are selected as organ donors, provided that there is a corresponding consent. Organ donation is a unique social activity that has a direct impact on the provision of health care to a wide range of patients. Transplantation and its well-known therapeutic benefits would not be possible without the cooperation and support of health professionals, government and society as a whole. The thesis is divided into 2 parts, the theoretical and the research. The theoretical part deals with the definitions of brain death and organ donation and describes in detail these two situations, such as the historical background, the causes and diagnosis of brain death, some general information about transplantation and its process, organ donation in our country and the view of the church on the issue of organ donation. The research part of the thesis explores the knowledge of nurses regarding organ donation. The purpose and questions arising from the research, the material and the method of the research, the ethical issues and the analysis of the data are analyzed. The results of the survey obtained through a questionnaire are then presented, analyzed and commented on, and, finally, the conclusions that emerge from the results of the research are presented.
