The present study explores the role and necessity of rural credit in Greek agricultural sector as well as the factors that influence the cooperation between rural and banking sector. The subject is initially studied theoretically, through the review of Greek and international literature. A quantitative survey is also carried out using a questionnaire, among Greek farmers in Central Macedonia, the purpose of which is to study their attitudes and their views on the rural credit in Greece. For the better presentation of the subject, the study was structured in six chapters. The first chapter presents the agricultural sector in Greece with an emphasis on its structural elements, its contribution to the economy in the country, as well as the financing resources received by the banking sector. In the second chapter are presented key elements for the rural economy in Greece with an emphasis on the Common Agricultural Policy and the economic crisis, as key factors that have influenced the agricultural sector in recent years. This chapter also discusses the structural problems of Greek agriculture. The third chapter refers to the need to modernize the agricultural sector, to the actions that can be taken for this purpose and to the important role that the banking sector can play in the same context and the corresponding benefits that can be gained by the agricultural sector. The fourth chapter describes the research methodology followed in the practical part, the research objectives and research questions of the study, as well as the procedures followed for collecting the data. In the fifth chapter are presented the results of the empirical research, and finally in the sixth chapter are recorded the main conclusions of the work, as well as proposals for future research
