Η επίδραση της μεθοδολογίας STEAM στην ανάπτυξη ήπιων δεξιοτήτων (soft skills) (Master thesis)

In contemporary educational reality and in the relevant scientific and
professional dialogue, the STEAM teaching methodology is emerging as a central
issue. This is due, on the one hand, to the technological development that
characterises our time and, consequently, to the importance of STEAM-related
professions and the related skills in the labour market. On the other hand, the
importance attached to education and the cultivation of skills relevant to the fields that
make up the interdisciplinary STEAM profession. The relevant literature has
highlighted the importance of cultivating relevant skills in both primary and
secondary education, and refers to the impact of relevant education on careers and the
development of STEAM disciplines in general.
A significant part of the relevant literature focuses on skills development. At
the same time, in addition to skills directly related to the STEAM discipline, the
correlation between STEAM-related education and careers and broader skills, such as
soft skills and 21st century skills (4Cs), is studied. This is because soft skills have
been shown to play a key role in career development, emotional development,
successful socialisation, personal fulfilment and ultimately individual well-being.
This paper is placed precisely in this research field and studies the relationship
between the STEAM educational methodology and the Problem based learning (PBL)
model and the development of soft skills in primary school students. Specifically, it
quantitatively studies the results of a workshop based on the STEAM-PBL
methodology in terms of enhancing the soft skills of the participating students. For
this purpose, questionnaires were used to assess students' levels and attitudes
regarding soft skills before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis and
discussion of the findings followed.
This paper begins by defining the research, documenting its significance, and
formulating the research question. This is followed by the literature review and
documentation. Methodological issues related to the conduct of the research are then
described. The statistical analysis is described and concluded with a discussion of the
conclusions.
