Head and neck cancer (HNC) and its medical treatment can cause negative effects on feeding capacity, communication and appearance, events that directly lead to a deterioration in patients' daily life. In particular, the clinical and biological heterogeneity of head and neck cancer can result in a great number of symptoms that affect the individual's quality of life such as pain, fatigue, nutritional problems, airway obstruction, voice alterations, and psychological distress. In addition, malnutrition, cancer cachexia, sarcopenia and dysphagia are undoubtedly frequent complications among sufferers, which lead to functional and social limitations, nutritional deficiencies, but also mood disorders. The purpose of this study was the systematic review of the complications resulting from head and neck cancer and the evaluation of the nutritional status of the patients. It is based on the study of contemporary scientific literature and research and it was conducted via PubMed and Google Scholar. The search included a combination of the various terms (keywords) in order to identify and display articles that would be as close as possible to the research topic.

| Abstract: | Ο καρκίνος κεφαλής και τραχήλου (HNC) και η θεραπεία του προκαλούν αρνητικές επιπτώσεις στη σίτιση, την επικοινωνία και την εμφάνιση, γεγονότα που οδηγούν άμεσα σε υποβάθμιση της καθημερινής ζωής των ασθενών. Ειδικότερα, η κλινική και βιολογική ετερογένεια του καρκίνου κεφαλής και τραχήλου παραλληλίζεται με μια πληθώρα από διαφορετικά συμπτώματα που επηρεάζουν την ποιότητα ζωής του ατόμου και αφορούν πόνο, κόπωση, διατροφικά προβλήματα, απόφραξη των αεραγωγών, αλλοιώσεις της φωνής και ψυχολογική δυσφορία. Επιπλέον, ο υποσιτισμός, η καρκινική καχεξία, η σαρκοπενία και η δυσφαγία αποτελούν αναμφίβολα συχνές επιπλοκές σε πάσχοντες, οι οποίες οδηγούν σε λειτουργικούς και κοινωνικούς περιορισμούς, διατροφικές ανεπάρκειες, αλλά και διαταραχές στη διάθεση. Σκοπός της εργασίας ήταν η συστηματική ανασκόπηση των επιπλοκών που οφείλονται στον καρκίνο κεφαλής και τραχήλου και η αξιολόγηση της κατάστασης θρέψης των ασθενών. Βασίζεται στη μελέτη σύγχρονης επιστημονικής αρθρογραφίας και έρευνας και διεξήχθη με τη χρήση των μηχανών αναζήτησης PubMed και Google Scholar. Η αναζήτηση συμπεριέλαβε συνδυασμό των διαφόρων όρων (λέξεις - κλειδιά) ώστε να αναγνωριστούν και να εμφανιστούν άρθρα που θα πλησίαζαν όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερο το θέμα της έρευνας.
