Comparative Study of Authors and Topics (Subject Headings) in Reading Books (Anagnostika) of Primary School (1900 1936) included in Historical Collection of IEP This work is comprised of two parts. The first part covers the bibliographical research about the changes that occurred to the Greek primary schools from 1900 to 1936. Also, there is a short mention of the linguistic dispute. The school books were compared with emphasis to the educational laws, and re presentative studies were presented about the reading books in Greece. In the second part, there is an analytical presentation of the digital library Historical Collection of the Institution of Educational Policy (IEP). The reading books of the period 190 0 1936 are analyzed with emphasis to comparing the authors with the subject headings. During this research, it became obvious that the authors, after following the instructions of the Ministry of Education, they wrote reading books according to the lingui stic guidelines (“demotic”, “katharevousa”) that the current government dictated, resulting in some books being written in “demotic” and some in “katharevousa” with the second being predominant. Many of the authors were primary school teachers while some o thers were established writers. They wrote books for all classes covering a wide range of heading subjects emphasizing on patriotism, family and religion.
