Economic analysis of Greek sea fishery on the basic of a time series database

Abstract

The aim of this study is to present an econometric analysis of the development of Greek sea fishery including by the indicators of Gross Product, prices, employment, through the use of statistical data organized in time series of the fishety regions and the nationnal aggregates. Data source of the presented current economic analysis is a newly created PC FTS (Fishery Time Series) database concerning sea fishery of Greece. It is organised by extracting statistical data from the mainframe computer of the National Statistical Service of Greece for the 1990-2002 period. This data are processed in monthly and yearly series and concern quantities and values of fish catches by areas, fish species by cathegory, kinds of fishery, fishing tools as well as employed. The embodied in the database software enables the users to make statistical estimates using historical data and updated database regarding every following year. Thus the economic analysis can be used in forecasting and decision making at national and regional level and by business units. This article presents an economic analysis only on selected indicators of the database.
