Fibromyalgia is a syndrome which demonstrates as its main characteristic the persistent and widespread musculoskeletal pain. In addition to pain and tenderness, patients with Fibromyalgia also report other symptoms including sleep disruption, fatigue, depression, anxiety, memory and concentration problems, headaches and others. Fibromyalgia is diagnosed through a combination of patient history and physical examination mainly by a rheumatologist. While not required for the diagnosis itself, exclusion of other causes for symptoms attributed to fibromyalgia is important clinically for optimal management. Up to date, and with the criteria that have been used for the diagnosis of the syndrome, the syndrome appears to influence mostly middle aged women. The syndrome affects the patients functional ability and the daily activities, while it also decreases their role and their participation in multiple domains such as their job, their social life, and it also appears to be a quite burden for their economic situation. Patients with fibromyalgia, often report that their symptoms and mainly pain are influence negatively from the weather changes. This particular paper has as its main purpose to inform about the syndrome of fibromyalgia and specifically its process of diagnosis, the factors that can trigger the syndrome, the pathophysiology and the mechanisms of pain in fibromyalgia and finally to present scientific evidence through published articles with the subject and the question of whether fibromyalgia and its multiple symptoms but mainly pain, is affected truly by the weather variables (temperature, humidity, precipitation, cloudiness, wind speed, duration of sunshine, atmospheric pressure, barometric pressure) and their changes.
