During this paper we studied pulmonary hypoplasia caused by fetal ascites in congenital cytomegalovirus infection despite fetal therapy (CMV). It is a rare condition, but with catastrophic morbidity among babies and it causes other illnesses (ex. Deafness), in case the baby survives. The goal was to obtain deeper knowledge about the causes, the symptoms and mostly how to deal with it, as it is a condition still under study. Specifically, up until this day, there is not a known, fully effective medical intervention for early infections from cytomegalovirus during pregnancy.

| Abstract: | Στην παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία μελετήθηκε η πνευμονική υποπλασία που προκαλείται από εμβρυικό ασκιτή στην συγγενή μόλυνση από κυτταρομεγαλοιό, παρά την εμβρυική θεραπεία (CMV). Πρόκειται για μια σπάνια πάθηση, αλλά με καταστροφική νοσηρότητα στα νεογέννητα και πρόκληση άλλων παθήσεων (πχ κώφωση), στην περίπτωση που το νεογνό επιβιώσει. Στόχος ήταν η απόκτηση βαθύτερης γνώσης σχετικά με τα αίτια, τα συμπτώματα και κυρίως τους τρόπους αντιμετώπισης, καθώς αποτελεί μια πάθηση η οποία μελετάται ακόμα. Συγκεκριμένα, μέχρι και σήμερα, δεν υπάρχει κάποια γνωστή, πλήρως αποτελεσματική ιατρική παρέμβαση για τις πρώιμες μολύνσεις από κυτταρομεγαλοιούς κατά τη διάρκεια της κύησης.
