Κλινική αξιολόγηση και τρόποι αποκατάστασης στο σύνδρομο του καρπιαίου σωλήνα (Bachelor thesis)

Μουταφτσής, Ηλίας

Usually the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome appears due of tendons that are situated inside the carpal tunnel. The result of this situation is that the free space is reduced (due to swelling) and consequently the median nerve is suppressed. These tendons are usually injured by overuse of the flexor muscles. Although the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome may appear at any age, there is higher frequency at the ages 50 plus. Also, there is higher frequency of appearance at the dominant hand and to women. The symptoms related to the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome develop gradually as the time passes. Initially there is pain or a sense of heat at the wrist and at the fingers. Then acupunctures, fingers the first minutes of the day and possible atrophy of the thenar. The subjective (history taking) and the objective (clinical examination) assessment are enough to lead the physiotherapy is necessary to confirm the diagnosis. The restoration (reclamation) can be conservative, when the syndrome is of minor or medium severity. Nevertheless, when the syndrome is at advanced level, then surgery of opening – “release” of carpal tunnel is considered necessary.
