The effect of a high protein diet on reducing body weight and improving body composition in non-athletes is a controversial issue for the scientific community. At the same time, many experts recommend taking or supplementing the amount of protein from various dietary protein supplements, but there are insufficient data about their effect on non-athletes. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a short-term hypocaloric, high protein diet, where the 1/3 of the protein intake was derived from protein supplementation, in body composition and basic metabolic rate of young overweight people, as well as the comparison of its effects against a hypocaloric Mediterranean diet.
