In this particular senior thesis, the new-found technologies in the field of library automation will be researched and presented. Next generation integrated library systems (ILS) will be presented in a detailed way. The background development of integrated library systems throughout the years as long with the new trends will be displayed alongside with the ongoing user feedback that affect program functionality. The open access movement will be introduced as a general incident in the world wide web and its relation with library integrated systems. Finishing this thesis, the presentation of Evergreen, an open access integrated library system of the so-called next generation systems with more than 270 libraries using it at its fullest, will take place.

| Abstract: | Στην πτυχιακή αυτή εργασία θα ερευνηθούν οι νέες τεχνολογίες που παρουσιάζονται στον χώρο των αυτοματοποιημένων συστημάτων βιβλιοθηκών και το ενδιαφέρον που δείχνουν. Ονομάζονται ως αυτοματοποιημένα συστήματα νέας γενιάς και τα χαρακτηριστικά τους θα παρουσιαστούν με ενδελεχή τρόπο. Το παρελθόν και το παρόν, αυτών των συστημάτων, και τα οποιαδήποτε προβλήματα έχουν φέρει επίσης θα παρουσιαστούν καθώς και οι τωρινές ανάγκες των βιβλιοθηκών από τις απαιτήσεις των χρηστών τους. Η ανοικτή πρόσβαση θα αποτελέσει ακόμη ένα κεφάλαιο προς παρουσίαση και μελέτη και η εφαρμογή του κινήματος αυτού στην αυτοματοποίηση βιβλιοθηκών. Τέλος θα γίνει η παρουσίαση του Evergreen, ενός συστήματος νέας γενιάς με περισσότερες από 270 βιβλιοθήκες ενεργά μέλη.
