Disorders of skin pigmentation, are a critical section in the cosmetics industry, as a considerable number of the population is frequently affected by them. In almost every occasion, there is a cosmetic problem, freestanding or extended. The science of aesthetics is called to sufficiently inform about efficient methods of prevention. It is important to clarify the severity of skin protection to the public, so that with the proper caution, recorded or new disorders related to skin pigmentation will be prevented. By disorders of skin pigmentation is meant the dysfunction of melanocytes in various pathological conditions. The dysfunction of melanocytes modulates melanogenesis which results in increased or decreased production of melanin. Disorders of skin pigmentation include hyperpigmentation where there is upregulation of melanin and hence darkening of skin and hypopigmentation, characterized by partial loss of pigment so that the skin becomes lighter in comparison to the normal color. In cases of complete loss of the pigment melanin discoloration of the skin is observed. In each of the above categories various disorders are classified in a representative clinical feature of skin pigmentation and abnormal pigmentation of the skin due to external, pharmaceuticals, metabolic, hormonal and genetic causes.
