Multiple sclerosis (MS), also known as disseminated sclerosis, is a chronic demyelinating neurological disease that mainly affects young and middle-aged adults. In MS the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. This damage disrupts the ability of parts of the nervous system to communicate, resulting in a wide range of signs and symptoms, including physical and mental problems. The disease manifests a wide range of signs and symptoms like fatigue, muscle weakness, walking problems, imbalance, dysfunction of the bladder and the rectum, sensory problems, visual disturbances, ataxia and tremor. Patients with MS also have poor cardiorespiratory fitness. These symptoms, in many cases, lead to a poor quality of life in patients with MS. Medication has its role in managing the disease’s symptoms but rehabilitation and exercise have been proposed to counteract many of the consequences of disseminated sclerosis. The aim of this paper is to conduct a systematic review of evidence by collecting a variety of exercise protocols that have been used by researchers in order to discover their benefits in multiple sclerosis patients.
