The aim of this dissertation was to conduct a user survey about the conditions relating to services rendered by the Library of the University of Piraeus. In particular, this survey sought to reveal: a) how often students and readers use the library, b) how often they borrow books, c) their satisfaction about the library’s facilities and equipment, d) the quality of the services provided and e) the contribution of the library to research. In order for this work to be completed, a random sample survey was adopted and implemented. A sample of one hundred persons comprised of students, teaching and administrative personnel was chosen according to random sampling rules, so as to fulfill the conditions required for the unbiased representation of the population of the library users. In this framework, a questionnaire was compiled and distributed to users randomly picked at the University of Piraeus, where undergraduate and graduate students participated, as well as members of teaching and administrative staff of the University. Apart from “one question – one answer”, users were asked to give their remarks and opinion about the library. In general, as it became evident through the analysis of the given replies, the users appeared satisfied regarding the sufficiency of the library material and the services offered. However, little use of the electronic equipment and the electronic catalogue implies that probably users are not familiar with the new technology and they must therefore be trained in order for them to be able to reach the electronic sources of the library. Furthermore, specific users’ proposals, such as enriching the technical equipment and improving the premises, if adopted, will improve the image of the library
