Απομάκρυνση του μπλε του μεθυλενίου από υδατικά διαλύματα με τη χρήση βοστρύχων σταφυλιών (Bachelor thesis)

Pollution destroys the natural environment. The modern lifestyle and the continued increase of the population of our planet, increase the pollution rapidly. There are various types of pollution. One of them is water pollution. A major cause of water pollution is dyestuffs from textile industries. Several techniques have been used to purify water from dyestuffs, including adsorption. In the present dissertation the removal of the methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions with the use of some industrial by- products is examined. The byproducts used are grape stalks which are received during the wine- making process. The stems were washed with deionized water in order to remove the water-soluble constituents. After washing they were dried, grinded, and sieved. The fine material was divided in three parts. The first part was used without further processing. The other part was processed with HNO3, whereas the third part was undergone the basic procedure with a NaOH solution. Adsorption’s experiments had taken place under batch conditions and initial concentrations of 25-500 mg/L, in varying pH values and ionic strength. The impact of the contact time was also observed in order to find the time which was needed to achieve equilibrium. Equilibrium concentrations of MB were measured spectrophotometrically. The experimental data were modeled by the Langmuir and Freundlich equations, which parameters were calculated through linear regression. The correlation coefficient, R2, was used to assess the adequacy of each model.
