Low Cost Αεροπορικές εταιρείες (Bachelor thesis)
Σιδηροπούλου, Ραχήλ
This specific work deals with the existence and evolution of Low Cost Airlines (LCCS). Initially, a major issue is the goal set by LCCS, through their business model, a strategy in terms of serving the public. In order to make this clear, it is necessary to be aware of their own historical path , highlighting the basic points, while reaching today. The European air transportation industry entered a competitive game in the 1990s. Along the way, we are confronted, not only with fares and aviation , in economic and social terms, but also with competition and its parameters. As Europe’s airline liberalization made its first steps, a series of new airlines emerged within the European Union, some of which competed with the cost of conventional airlines. The new appearance of airlines is centered on the strategy that goes based on fares given to travelers. These new low cost airlines have managed to transform the aviation industry over the last few decades in both parts of the Atlantic. There is a strong reaction from conventional airlines, which leads to a strong competition with low cost airlines. At the same time, we can also see competition among low cost companies , which has also had an impact on the strategic planning of airports. Then , we find that the greatest interest is in the LCCS sector itself, giving us detailed information on charges, improvements and inhibiting factors, differentiations and rivalry with the conventional ones. In addition to increasing connectivity some of the effects of LCCS are: a strong increase in passenger traffic at secondary airports, improved visibility of the destination site and a decrease on the seasonality of the tourist service. In conclusion, we end in a variety of conclusions about their core, and we obviously assume their continued presence in the future airline market.
