Robotics is a field of technology which we meet in physiotherapy in recent years.
Retreatment of gait in patients with neurological problems can be done with the assistance of
specialized gait machines and their contribution is positive in terms of outcome. The scope of
this dissertation is the presentation of results of robotic walking machines in patients with
Stroke. It shows new ways of approaching the physiotherapy program to patients with stroke
rehabilitation.
In the introduction, there is a reference to the Central Nervous System and the way it
controls the gait. In the subsequent chapter, there is an analysis of stroke and more
specifically, it is mentioned the definition of stroke, its etiology, its diagnosis and its clinical
findings. One of its clinical findings stroke is hemiplegia which often affects the functioning
of the gait. Subsequently, in order to understand the contribution of robotics to patients with
stroke, normal walking, pathological walking and evaluation is presented, which they aim to
highlight further the approach of robotic walking machines. Moreover, in the next chapter,
conventional methods of treatment are presented following by the reclamation of walking
with robotic systems. Additionally, there is a reference to some examples of robotic devices
considering their design concepts and functional features.
In the last chapter, there is a comparison of research studies in the restoration of walking in
patients with stroke with robotic machines. The purpose of literature review is the
presentation of articles and surveys of patients with stroke and the effectiveness of the
contribution of robotic machines.
For the accomplishment of the dissertation, a review of the current literature review and
search of articles in PubMed and PEDro search engines was made. Last, the systematic error
data evaluation was evaluated by Cochrane.
