Ο ρόλος του εκπαιδευτικού στη διαχείριση «καταθληπτικών εκδηλώσεων» των εφήβων: Ποσοτική προσέγγιση (Master thesis)

The current paper is a quantitative research on the exploration and clarification of the educator’s role on the management of depressive expressions among adolescents. On the one hand, it investigates the role of the educator with respect to the degree of the ability to recognize the various depression symptoms and the cases, where a recommendation is made to consult an expert of psychological health. On the other hand, the paper researches the degree of awareness of the institutional framework for the aforeseen educator’s role as long as the degree that the framework’s guidelines are followed. The term « depressive expressions» can refer to cases of psychopathology, when there is already a diagnosis of a depression incident or depression disorder, while some times it can refer to a prolonged period of psychological vulnerability and melancholical mood, when there is no diagnosis, either because there was no need or because a reference to a psychological health expert has not been made. It is already a fact that there is a growing trend of the depressive expressions in adolescents especially in Greece during the on-going period of the economic crisis. The literature that is related with the educator’s role and the depressive expressions, separately, is rather rich, since such matters are examined from a different point of views among reasearchers that are occupied in different fields of expertise. It could be said that the innovative element of this research is that it investigates the role of the educator in areas that do not strictly belong in their direct field of expertise. It is therefore an attempt to cross-cut various expertise areas that can affect the educational reality. The findings of this particular research are especially interesting, since some times they can confirm the existing literature in the pedagogic and social sciences, while other times they raise questions that require further clarifications and can denote proposals for future reaseach. These finding are indications since this study regards a first degree of investigation. Furthermore, some degree of guardness is required with respect to their interpretation, since objectivity in educational and social sciences is always relative, as it is always the case in an area where many factors interact with each other, which allow someone to reach many different interpretations and conclusions.
