In the present study the importance of the school principal’s role is generally
presented, aiming at forwarding the interest to the communicative role of Preliminary
School Units’ principals. The study consists of 4 chapters, where at the three first of
them there are extensive references about the role and skills of school principals. At
the forth chapter ,there is a presentation of a study that took place in Preliminary
School Units of the Prefecture of Pella in Central Macedonia.
More specifically, in the first chapter of the study there is a reference, among
others, of the importance of management inside an organization and a school unit,
which are the responsibilities of a manager and which are the leadership models that
are easily identified in a school. In the second chapter, there is a reference at the role
of the school’s staff and the Teacher’s Association, as a member of the Preliminary
Unit as well as to the students, their parents and the higher education levels. All these
groups communicate with the school principal. The study also describes the way, a
school manager can achieve effective management and how he can create a
cooperation climate with respect to each other, motivate the staff and reduce conflicts,
with every one of them being within the frame of school principal’s communication
skills.
In the fourth and final chapter of the study, a presentation of the views of a
part of teachers in Prefecture of Pella takes place, concerning the communicative
skills of their school principal. In summary, the participants are not particularly
pleased with the emotional intelligence levels of their school heads neither with their
communicative skill levels in general. Despite that, they do recognize the importance
of these skills for a smooth school operation or the assistance coming from sources
outside the school environment.
