Professional satisfaction is clearly an important factor in maximizing employee
performance. Inhibitors of professional satisfaction can help reduce it. Professional
dissatisfaction with the education sector is linked to the possibility of reducing teacher
performance and its impact on the whole education system.
Work stress is linked to professional satisfaction. It causes serious mental and
physical health problems with a multitude of negative consequences for the worker
himself, the quality of his working and personal life, but also for the economy and
society in general, as the rate of absenteeism increases, the rates of accidents at work
and early retirement.
The survey was conducted in public elementary primary schools in the prefecture
of Thessaloniki during the academic year 2018-2019, in order to investigate the work
stress of the teachers: the factors that cause it, the most common symptoms, the
strategies they apply for its management, its impact on work and personal life, during
the economic crisis, during which it is being conducted.
This dissertation consists of two parts, the theoretical and the research. In the
theoretical part (chapters 1 to 4) there is an extensive topic related to the subject under
review, domestic and international bibliographic overview. The research is the second
part (chapters 5 and 6). It clarifies its purpose and usefulness, the research cases and
the methodology followed (chapter 5), followed by presentation and commenting on
the results and ending with the conclusions drawn from the elaboration of the results
and our proposals for future relevant research occupation (Chapter 6).
