Today world social reality is governed by phenomena accompanied by uncertainty, insecurity and rapid changes. The workplace is the main field in which these phenomena are reflected in almost straightforward way. In an environment that is becoming increasingly competitive, uncertain and demanding, leadership as a function of the executives of all hierarchical levels is the key to sustained success. Undoubtedly, the challenge of effective leadership, beyond its key role in the work process, helps to promote beneficial practices that aim to achieve fruitful results in the working environment. Everything depends on leadership. The constant question that concerns those who are concerned about the issues of work and more generally about the issues of organizing and managing the workplace in businesses and organizations, relates to what are the characteristics that make a leader in his workplace. Among the characteristics that are thought to affect the leadership style is the leader's gender. It is therefore a goal of many research efforts to ask whether men or women can become leaders to the same degree or superiority in gender-specific leadership. Despite surveys and studies on the profile and features of the leader, no vision can give an entirely convincing answer to the question of effective leadership. Given the ambiguity regarding the effect of gender on the leadership style, this diploma thesis aims to investigate the gender impact of individuals in the leadership style they exercise in the Higher Education Administration. Academic institutions are, in fact, the most valuable indicator of the socio-economic and cultural development of every society. The research was carried out in all the Academic Schools and Departments of the University of Thessaly and the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly and in the four prefectures of Thessaly, where the Schools and Departments of the aforementioned institutions are based.
