Συνεργασία σχολείου με γονείς μαθητών με Asperger στο δημοτικό σχολείο (Master thesis)

Autism is still an enigma even in nowadays. A lot of scientists are trying to give an
accurate definition and for that reason we have met a lot of interpretations about autism
(Sakketou & Papagianni,2010). A more general definition could be that autism is a pervasive
developmental disorder which is related to brain problems and it is not possible to be cured
(Lithiropoulou, 2013). It is possible for people with autism to show low or very high
functionality and also to deal with great difficulties in their speech, their communication and
understanding of the emotions and intentions of their surroundings. A term that is frequently
related with autism is the Asperger syndrome and belongs to the autism spectrum with high
functionality. It has common characteristics with autism such as the standardized repeated
behavior and the significant deviation to the social interaction. The difference between these
two is that people who have the Syndrome do not have disablement to their cognition, they
have normal intelligence and often they prove special talents (Stolidi & Tsingeli,2012).
The purpose of that research is to describe the theoretical context of autism and to
emphasize to the Asperger syndrome. At the first chapter definitions of the autism and the
syndrome will be given as well their history through the years. At the same time there will be
descriptions of the characteristics of the syndrome and the causes of its appearance. In the
second chapter there will be analysis of the ways of assessments and diagnosis of the
syndrome. Also there will be various evaluation tests that are used in order to sense the
syndrome. Furthermore, there are descriptions of the importance of the speech therapy to the
children that have the Syndrome and we discuss the part of the state in order to improve the
lives of these children.
Afterwards, at the chapter three there are references to the social interaction and
communication for the people who have Asperger and to the problems which they face by
using and understanding speech. Moving on we will analyze the significant matters and
activities that these people can deal with and also their sensory dysfunctions and the abstract
way of their thinking that characterizes them. We will try to approach the problem of their
adaptability into different situations and to research their awkwardness, their skills and their
talents.
Also, at the fourth chapter, we will focus on the role of the family in order to support
their children and the place of the parents and their siblings as co-therapists and trainers.
Furthermore, we will look into to the behavior of these children into the school society and how the cooperation of their families with the school faculty can bring positive results to the
lives of the children. Concluding, we will mention the results of a primary research with uses the method of questionnaires and we will try to analyze the results in order to contribute to further
researches about that issue. At the same time we will check if our findings are confirmed by
the present bibliography.
