Η ανάγνωση και κατανόηση της διατροφικής ετικέτας ως αποτέλεσμα βιολογικών και κοινωνικών παραγόντων (Bachelor thesis)

Purpose: Finding the way the factors examined can influence the usage of nutritional labels and comparing them with the bibliographic data. Methodology: First a review of relevant papers was conducted. The data from the 800 questionnaires answered was processed with descriptive statistics and statistical tests in order to reveal factors of possible relevance to the nutrition label usage. The tests were the x2 and AN.O.VA. They were ran on a level of significance of p value = 0.05 with the I.B.M. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, (S.P.S.S.) V20, Results: The frequency of reading the nutrition label during the first time a product is bought is affected by gender, age and education. Examining the content of macronutrients is affected by education. Examining content of micronutrients and nutritional claims is dependent on gender. Discussion: It appears that women tend to have more interest in achieving greater levels of quality of their nutrition than men. There is also a need of more in depth research in order for the ways in which education can affect level of interest in healthy eating and nutritional knowledge which is a predicting factor of nutrition label usage. Moreover the effect of age on nutrient label usage must get evident along with the ways it may work directly or indirectly. The effectiveness of nutrition label usage on the diet quality of consumers can lower the prevalence of nutrition related deceases, which makes further research a necessity.
