Obesity is a global health problem which is characterized by excessive accumulation of fat in adipose tissue, causing severe health problems. This accumulation is directly related to high caloric intake which leads to weight gain. Significant differences in fat distribution can cause the outbreak of many diseases, which are the result of obesity. Abdominal obesity, also known as central obesity is the accumulation of fat around the abdominal area and is considered to be more dangerous for the development of many diseases, as compared with obesity which is characterized by uniform fat distribution.
The central obesity favors the development of certain conditions which contribute to the induction of diabetes mellitus type 2. Diabetes mellitus is a syndrome with heterogeneous and multifactorial substrate, characterized by a disturbance of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism, because of insulin deficiency. Abdominal obesity can cause insulin resistance, which is necessary for the development of diabetes mellitus type 2.
In this project conducted a survey about people with diabetes mellitus type 2 and their eating habits were studied as if suffering simultaneously from central obesity. The vast majority of diabetic patients had central obesity which shows the relationship of central obesity and type 2 diabetes.
