Διαρκής αξιολόγηση της αυτογνωσίας των φοιτητών Τμήματος Τεχνολογίας Τροφίμων (Master thesis)

This study was mainly based on a specifically constructed questionnaire addressed to students in order to evaluate and assess their performance before and after their entry to the Department. The questionnaire was written focusing on four standpoints: lyceum education, undergraduate education, criticism for the Department status, professional rehabilitation.
The framework of the research was deployed on retrieving and providing valuable and unique information from students in order to reveal pitfalls in education and promote principal educational traits.
The questionnaire was given to the students during the exams of September 2013 and 2016 to all active students including 14 questions to be answered and totally receiving 366 and 396 responses respectively. Results were obtained and compared between the two periods:
Over the last three years, the average grade of high school education increased by 18% in class 16.1-18 and by 6% in class 18.1-20.
The number of students who were obliged to pass theoretical lessons of more than 11 dropped by 9% in 2016 as a result of a better educational background.
Regarding the timing of completing their studies, students in 2016 who believe they will get a diploma in 5-6 years have increased by 14% as compared to longer-term expectations.
The survey revealed four indices of self-assessment of students' opinion for the department: stay positive from the beginning of the entry and still positive (PP), negative throughout the current educational period (NN), positive first and switched to negative ( PN) and negative to positive (NP). These indicators were related to each question by looking and the following results were obtained:
In 2016, students with a viewpoint of PP and a high school degree-class of 16,1-18 increased by 9% and those with a class of 18,1-20 increased by 21%
In the same period, students with a PP view in joint with an excellent level of secondary education increased by 33%. On the contrary, and for the same trait, PN students were declined by 20%, while no NP and NN students were reported.
On the question of completing studies in 4 years, students with a PP view in the year 2016 increased by 22%, while PN students were completely absent (in 2013 they totaled 12%).
In 2013, PP students who are not going to serve as Food Technologist in the future reached a level of 25%. No such figure was noticed in 2016, however, the proportion of NN students in 2016 rose up to 25% for the same question.

The principal component analysis showed that the level of Lyceum knowledge the degree of high school graduation are positively related to each other as well as the degree of difficulty of the courses with the time of study. These two relationships respond inversely in practice (good quality of knowledge from high school means reduced difficulty and shorter duration of study).
The analysis of logistic regression demonstrated for the period of 2013 a significant increase in the probability of students having a NP viewpoint regarding the secondary options in the computerized rank sheets and a significant increase in the probability of the PN students on the degree of difficulty of courses. The latter probability was stronger for students with a PN viewpoint of 2016, while the probability of NN students to become Food was dropped significantly.
Conclusively, by comparing trends and attitudes of students between the two periods of studies, it comes out a current better semblance of students’ performance and confidence as related to the educational quality of the department and the perspectives of short-term professional rehabilitation.
