Συργιανόγλου, Ορέστης

The following work begins by analyzing the word Music therapy, and giving it a definition, making a historical reference from 1500 BC until today and shows the influence of music on human psyche and its anatomy. Following are four neurological disorders described, Parkinson's, a motor disorder; Aphasia, a speech disorder; Tourette's Syndrome, a muscle control disorder and Dementia, a human memory disorder, all with different pathological symptoms and they are analyzed to show the help we could get through Music Therapy. Then, both the importance of vocational training and the therapist's attitude towards the patient are highlighted, proof of the importance of the role of the Music Therapist, as well as the proposed environment for the practice of Music Therapy. We then go over the methodology, the practical methods and also the complex process that is followed to make Music Therapy a success. The goals and indications for the application of Music Therapy are also mentioned. Finally, citing published articles, we conclude that music is becoming an increasingly powerful tool in the hands of trained therapists and is gradually being established as a given therapy for neurological patients.
