The following thesis was composed by Alexandros Papadopoulos. Its primary subject revolved around the detailed presentation of the classification, archiving and digitization of a portion of the notarial acts composed by Sotirios Papadimas between 1926 and 1931. Due to the notable historical influence that links together the words Archives, Notary and Past, it was decided that the main subject would be supported by an extensive historical analysis, since antiquity and until today, regarding the evolution of archives and the archival science in general. As such, the thesis is composed of five main sections: 1. Introduction: Disclosure of basic archival terminology 2. Antiquity: Study of early human history, up until the 13th century, focusing on event and behaviors that underline the importance of archives for the communal aspect of life, even when the archival science is still at a very primal state. 3. Late middle ages and modern history: Continuation of the historical reflection, picking up from the 13th century and onwards, following the rapid development of the archival science. This part is focused on names and dates, as well as milestones and groundbreaking events that shaped the modern archival scene, up until the late 20th century. 4. Archives management methodology: Extensive report on the daily routine regarding the management of Sotirios Papadimas’ notarial acts, with the ultimate goal of being fully integrated into the collection of the Historical Archive of Macedonia. 5. Presentation of SAE documents: Presentation of the end result, product of the completion of the cycle of the archival documents’ management, leading to their digitization.
