Εναλλακτικός τουρισμός στην Ευρώπη: Μελέτη περίπτωσης: ποδηλατικός τουρισμός (Bachelor thesis)

The goal of this assignment, is to provide the reader with a complete picture regarding the activity of biking in Europe. The multifarious approach we used, includes the estimation of modern cities' infrastructures, the exciting parts of biking and what we must be wary of; finally, we will express all these points and promote them within the framework of tourism.
After researching the manuscripts of the European parliament about modern citizens' current living situation, we studied how drastically the bike can fit into their lives and whether it can be an effective means of transportation during one's vacation. Furthermore, we investigate biking in a larger scale, from the impact it has on configuring cities, to its contribution on the planet. Being a tourism organization, we translated all this information into tourism data, studying the profiles of tourist bikers; and thus concluded upon the effectiveness and longevity biking has, as an independent tourism field in this age.
While reaching the end, we come to many positive conclusions, not only regarding our personal daily lives; but in our coexistence as citizens and inhabitants of Earth. With climate phenomena peaking and the constantly escalating environmental crisis our planet is it becomes apparent that biking should not be viewed as a hobby or merely a means of transportation, but rather, it should be considered a lifestyle and we should focus on its implementation in order to ensure a climatically better tomorrow. Biking allows us to move within the city with much ease. However, that isn't so easily applicable, as each city's representatives and we as citizens must put in the work to make cities and our attitudes friendlier towards biking. From a purely tourist perspective, things are easier, as Europe is filled with gorgeous landscape and historically rich sights; and the bike is a more than suitable and healthy way to visit them all.
Not only does biking make our transportation easier and more pleasant during our vacation, but also it paves a healthier future both for us and the environment.

| Abstract: | Ο σκοπός αυτής της εργασίας, είναι να δώσει στον αναγνώστη μια ολοκληρωμένη εικόνα σχετικά με την κατάσταση της ποδηλασίας στην Ευρώπη. Η πολύπλευρη προσέγγιση που χρησιμοποιήσαμε συμπεριλαμβάνει έρευνα των υποδομών των σύγχρονων πόλεων, το συναρπαστικό μέρος του ποδηλάτου άλλα και το τι θα πρέπει κάποιος να προσέχει και τέλος πως όλα αυτά μπορούν να εκφραστούν και να προωθηθούν σε ένα τουριστικό πλαίσιο.
Έπειτα από έρευνες εγγράφων του Ευρωπαϊκού κοινοβουλίου σχετικά με τις συνθήκες ζωής των σύγχρονων ανθρώπων, μελετήσαμε το πόσο ενεργά μπορεί το ποδήλατο να χωρέσει στην καθημερινότητα τους και σε τι βαθμό μπορεί να αποτελέσει ένα αποδοτικό μέσο με το οποίο μπορεί κάποιος να πραγματοποιήσει τις διακοπές του. Επιπροσθέτως, ερευνούμε το ποδήλατο σε μεγαλύτερη κλίμακα, από την διαμόρφωση των πόλεων, στην συμβολή που έχει στον ίδιο τον πλανήτη. Όντας τουριστικός οργανισμός, μεταφράσαμε όλες αυτές της πληροφορίες σε τουριστικά δεδομένα μελετώντας προφίλ των τουριστών ποδηλατιστών, και συμπεράναμε πόσο αποτελεσματική και μακροπρόθεσμη είναι η ποδηλασία σαν αυτοτελής κλάδος του τουρισμού της σημερινή εποχή.
Τέλος, καταλήξαμε σε μια πληθώρα θετικών συμπερασμάτων, όχι μόνο στις προσωπικές, καθημερινές ζωές μας· άλλα και στην συμβίωση μας σαν σύνολο πολιτών και κατοίκων αυτής της Γης. Με τα κλιματικά φαινόμενα σε έξαρση και την διαρκώς αυξανόμενη οικολογική κρίση που αντιμετωπίζει ο πλανήτης μας , γίνεται φανερό πως το ποδήλατο δεν θα πρέπει να γίνεται αντιληπτό ως μία ασχολία ή απλώς ένα μέσω άσκησης, αλλά κυρίως πρέπει να θεωρηθεί ως τρόπος ζωής και να εστιάσουμε στην εφαρμογή του για να διασφαλίσουμε ένα κλιματικά εύπορο αύριο. Το ποδήλατο κάνει την μετακίνηση μας στις πόλεις ευκολότερη. Αυτό δεν σημαίνει όμως, πως κάτι τέτοιο είναι τόσο εύκολα πραγματοποιήσιμο, καθώς θα πρέπει να κινητοποιηθούν οι κρατικοί φορείς, και κατ' επέκταση, εμείς οι ίδιοι, έτσι ώστε να κάνουμε τις πόλεις μας και την νοοτροπία μας, φιλικότερες προς αυτό. Από τουριστικής σκοπιάς, τα πράγματα είναι ευκολότερα, μιας και η Ευρώπη είναι πανέμορφη, με αμέτρητα ξεχωριστά και ιστορικά πλούσια αξιοθέατα· και το ποδήλατο είναι το πιο εύκολο και υγιές μέσο για να τα επισκεφθεί κάποιος.
Το ποδήλατο όχι μόνο κάνει την μετακίνηση μας εύκολη και ευχάριστη στις διακοπές μας, αλλά χαράζει ένα πιο υγιές προς εμάς και το περιβάλλον μέλλον.
