Τζιοβάρα, Ευαγγελία

Despite the fact that swimming is suggested as a therapy for the majority of injuries due to the numerous beneficial and fast-paced results that can provide in the stage of rehabilitation, we should not forget that we are still dealing with a sport. So, just like any kind of sport, swimming can cause a number of injuries as well. More specifically, there are four types of swimmers that are dependent on the four different kinds of swimming that we come across, but this specific dissertation deals with the breast-stroke athletes and the injury that their knee joint can suffer. This injury is the chronic sprain of the medial collateral ligament or as it is called the << breaststroker’s knee>>. I will elaborate on this specific illness, how it comes up, what causes her appearance, what symptoms it may has, how we can deal with it in order to prevent her reappearance and the quick return of the athletes back to the swimming pool. In addition, a number of solutions will be presented for its prevention, for the prevention of a potential re-injury as well as for its rehabilitation by all possible means. Finally, the general purpose of this dissertation is bringing to light this illness and motivating more scientists to conduct corresponding studies.
