This Diploma Thesis attempts to examine how low cost airlines affect the traffic of Chrysoupoli Airport. Initially, the concept of tourism, the tourist product, the tourist demand, as well as the most important sizes related to tourism in Greece are studied, while then the low cost companies and their main characteristics are examined in detail. In particular, the profile of low-cost airline passengers is captured, as well as the relationship of such companies with the environment. The low cost companies at Chrysoupoli Airport and their impact on the tourist development of the wider area of Kavala-Thassos are examined separately. Regarding the methodology that is applied, it is a bibliographic search in international databases of scientific journals, where they examine issues of tourism and especially air transport. Relevant books are also being used, as well as material from the Internet, so that all the information related to the case study under consideration can be obtained.
