Job satisfaction is a phenomenon that has been studied by many researchers
for many years. Τhis study examines the levels of health professionals job
satisfaction, who work in nephrology centers. At the beginning of the 21st century
there has been an increase in the number of people with end-stage renal failure and
large growth in autonomous private nephrology centers in the Prefecture of
Thessaloniki.
The purpose of the research is to investigate the job satisfaction of doctors and
nurses in artificial kidney units and the extent to which it is affected by specific
factors.
The sample consisted of 36 doctors and 176 nurses, who work in dialysis units
in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki. The tool used to evaluate job satisfaction, was Job
Satisfaction Survey (JSS) questionnaire from P. Spector's.
In conclusion, doctors and nurses have low job satisfaction. Furthermore,
satisfaction factors are significantly related to each other. Gender and age do not
affect employees' views, unlike marital status, annual income and years of service,
with some exceptions. Low satisfaction is found in communication and working
conditions and moderate satisfaction occurs in the relationship with the boss and
colleagues. In the end, it seems that communication is the field that offers the greatest
satisfaction to health professionals with 11 to 14 years of service, in contrast to the
older colleagues. While the job position is the most powerful factor of satisfaction.
